If you have questions or want information on any of the hikes, call JOAN MELCHER, 360-424-0407, or e-mail  All the hikes are on a Wednesday. Dogs are discouraged on Audubon-sponsored hikes. If dogs are on a hike, they must be on a leash at all times.

Hike-Little Cranberry Lake

WEDNESDAY MAY 15TH LITTLE CRANBERRY LAKE Do a hike around Little Cranberry Lake in the Anacortes Community Forest Lands. 6.0 miles, 670 ft. total el. gain. Meet at 9:00 a.m. at the trailhead located on “A” Ave between 37th and 41st Streets in Anacortes. You may leave when all in your vehicle return to the trailhead. Historically, all are back by 1 pm.

Hike-Lost Lake Trail*

Wednesday May 22nd LOST LAKE TRAIL Hike to a mirror lake in a rock trench on Chuckanut Mountain. Both options below will utilize the Rock Trail completed in 2014, connecting the Cyrus Gates Overlook with the Lost Lake Trail in the trench below. Discover Pass required for those parking in Larrabee State Park**. Discover Pass not required for those parking in the North Chuckanut parking lot. Two options:

Option I is a STRENUOUS 10-mile hike with an elevation gain of 2400 feet. Option II is a much less strenuous 7.2-mile hike with several hundred feet of elevation gain. For Option I (strenuous) meet at 8:30 am at the Lost Lake parking lot (formerly known as the Clayton Beach lot) at the south end of Larrabee State Park off Chuckanut Drive. Return time for this hike will be 3 pm.

For Option II meet at 9 am at the North Chuckanut parking lot located on the east side of Chuckanut Drive between the Old Samish Highway and California Street. This is about milepost 18.5. Option II hikers will pool rides and drive to the Cyrus Gates Overlook where the hike will begin. Return time to the North Chuckanut parking lot will be 2 pm. Drivers will need to be shuttled back to the Cyrus Gates Overlook. Moderate too difficult for Option II.

Hike-Thunder Creek

Wednesday May 29th THUNDER CREEK Hike up to 12 miles round trip, up to 1000 ft. total el. gain on one of the best forest hikes in the North Cascades. Meet at 7:30 a.m. on the east side of the Sedro-Woolley Food Pavilion parking lot. Return time is 3:30 pm.

Hike-Hoypus Point & Ala Spit*

Wednesday June 5th Hoypus Pt. and Ala Spit* Hike a moderate 6.4 miles with an additional 1-mile RT out to Ala Spit. Directions :

Take I-5 north to Mt Vernon, take exit 230. At the freeway off ramp turn left onto Highway 20 west, follow this for 18 miles to Deception Pass. Continue another mile. There will be a stoplight at the main entrance to Deception Pass State Park, which is on the right. You will turn left at the stoplight onto Coronet Bay Road. If coming north on Highway 20 from Oak Harbor the turn will be on your right. Follow Coronet Bay Road to its end at the marina, 1.4 miles from the stoplight. There is plenty of parking and restrooms available. The trail starts at the road closure. Note: the marina is popular with boaters in the summer.  Note: A Discover pass is needed to park.  Meet at 9:00 am at the Cornet Bay far East parking lot.  NOTE: if you want to carpool, meet at the Mt. Vernon Safeway at 8:30 am.

Skagit Audubon Society holds monthly meetings on the second Tuesday of each month except for the months of July and August. We meet at 7:00 pm at Padilla Bay Interpretive Center (Google map), 10441 Bayview-Edison Rd. Mount Vernon. Meetings are open to all.

The board of directors meets at the same location at 7:00 pm on the first Tuesday of each month, except for the months of July and August.
