Event Name

Wiley Slough and Hayton Access, Skagit Wildlife Area

Do you want to skip the crazy traffic and backed up roads on this Memorial Day weekend?  Come join us on Fir Island and greet our newest field trip leader Jeff Ernst.

We will meet at the Skagit Headquarters Area, sometimes known as Wiley Slough, in the boat launch parking area.  We will try to catch the morning birds in the boat launch area where we hope to see warblers, shorebirds in the slough and some waterfowl too.  We will probably walk the short trail near the entrance and then walk out to the forks in the dike trail.

Unless the birds are really interesting, we will move to Hayton Access (officially called the Fir Island Farms Reserve Unit) and check out the area for any shorebirds or other species about mid morning.

Pack your May birding outfit, a scope and binocs, and probably a snack in case the birds are cooperative and we stay longer.

Plan to walk easy flat trails with relatively good footing.  This will be a good field trip for all fitness levels

Remember your Discover Pass for Parking.

Leader: Jeff Ernst, and Jeff Osmundson (
