Birding Field Trip-Barney Lake Conservation Area., Mt. Vernon

Jan. 12, 2025 – Barney Lake Conservation Area, Mt. Vernon – 7:30 am-10:00 am

Trip Leader: Barry Antler; barryantler@gmail.com; pre-registration required, see below

The Barney Lake Conservation Area protects critical open water, wetland and working resource lands just to the east of growing Mt. Vernon, Washington.  It is managed by Skagit Land Trust.

Barry Antler will be our guide to this unique property to witness the magnificent Trumpeter Swans fly out after spending the night on Barney Lake.  There will be other waterfowl as well and if we are lucky we might spot a beaver.  Dress for the weather and expect to walk about one-half mile over rough, muddy terrain. Waterproof shoes are advised. Bring binoculars and a scope, if you have one, and be aware there are no bathroom facilities on this property. Meet Barry at 14024 McLaughlin Ext Rd., Mount Vernon. Please park along the right side of the road just before the gate to the dairy farm. Carpooling is encouraged as parking is limited. If you would like to carpool, you can post your contact information and city of residence under “comments” in Sign Up Genius. Prior to the event, periodically check the listings on Sign Up Genius to arrange for carpooling. Click on the link below to sign up for the field trip.  If it is full please use the waitlist as we often have cancellations.
